- Under normal operating conditions, the water level inside the boiler drum cannot be directly measured, hence the use of external piping measurement methods is common. However, the drawback is the significant temperature difference between the external piping and the drum, leading to a substantial difference in water density compared to that inside the drum, resulting in certain measurement errors. The dual-chamber balancing vessel is employed because, during operation, saturated steam condenses within the chamber, releasing heat to warm the positive and negative pressure compensation tubes. Additionally, the outer layer of the balancing vessel is sufficiently insulated. This reduces heat loss, bringing the temperature of the balancing vessel close to that inside the drum. Consequently, the density of water in both the positive and negative pressure compensation tubes remains nearly equal to the density of water inside the drum under any operating condition. Furthermore, by correctly selecting the height of the positive pressure compensation tube, when the drum water level is constant, regardless of changes in drum pressure, the pressure variations in the positive and negative pressure tubes are equal. As a result, the differential pressure output by the dual-chamber balancing vessel remains unchanged, meaning the water level indicated by the remote level gauge stays constant. Once the water level inside the drum changes, the differential pressure output by the balancing vessel changes linearly accordingly, allowing the remote level indicator to accurately display the drum water level in real time.
